Reading Competition

Grade Five reading competition happened on April 18 at H.B.S. Eighteen students participated in this competition. All the students were good, but unfortunately only the best three students must be chosen.
There were four students whose interesting poemes attracted me. First of all, Sara Al Zien presented a poem in a funny way which made her friends clap for her strongly. Second , Dalal Higazi told a poem about a boy who didn’t go to school and she presented it in a loud voice. Then, Rayan Baraki recited a poem about nature. Finally, Maryam Al Sharif recited a poem about the room and it was good. All the students in this competition were cheerful.
The results were told by Miss. Cloudia Hasan, the English language coordinator . The third prize was for Sara Al Zien. The second one was for Maryam Al Sharif, and the first one was for Rayan Baraki and Dalal Higazi.
When the competition finished, the eighteen students took a picture with their teachers: Bareaa, Lina, Samar, Aya and Fatima. The aim of this competition is that we should be in the lead.
Thanks to all the teachers that helped the students.

To Be Safe, Meet GRADE 9!!

A seminar about earthquakes happened on February,Friday 15 in the auditorium at Hajj Bahaa Complex. Grade 9 students informed H.B.S students about what they should do if an earthquake happened again .
They assigned some places in the playground to stay in if there was an earthquake. They also told teachers that they must stay at the corners of the class .They also told students to stay calm and not to panic if they were in class so that they could keep safe. In addition, grade 9 students taught other H.B.S students certain procedures to deal with this danger by putting their hands on their heads and bending down under the tables. In addition to telling students about solutions in school, they informed them what to do if they were in their houses or in the streets. This seminar attracted the students attention, although at the beginning they thought that the aim of this seminar was predicting that there would be another earthquake soon. Then they realized that they were wrong and the aim of it was to inform about protecting themselves.

Youthcan Conference

The Youth can Conference was assigned by the iEARN Lebanon. It was an event for teachers who worked on iEARN projects to present their work. The Conference was on Monday, April7th, 2008. It was at ACS(American Community School) in Beirut.
So we seven Youth can graders participated. When we arrived at ACS, a lot of students crowded there since many schools participated including ACS, HBS, Valley School and Ahleiah School. The opening ceremony started with speeches by Eliane Metni, iEARN country coordinator, the principle of ACS and Mrs. Hariri. When they finished students started demonstrating their show until our turn came. Our show started with performing a small play about the effects of recycling. Then, everyone talked about household garbage but each had his own idea. One talked about the effects while others talked about solutions. Finally, when everybody finished Mrs. Eliane Metni gave everybody certificates of participation due to their efforts. Thus everybody went back delightfully holding his certificate.

On Sunday, March 23, 2008 Dar El Yatim in Saida celebrated the birth of the prophet Mohamed sponsored by Mrs. Bahiya El Hariri and in the presence of the religious figure Salim Sousan and a huge audience.

The festival started with religious songs like Ya Taybah by Islamic Party. Then there was a poem about Islam and prophet Mohamed and a play about Mosaab Ben Omair. The play tells how he embraced Islam, and how he faced his mom and swore that he would not leave Islam even though she locked him in his room and gave him neither food nor money. The play was also about his participation in Chaswat Ohod and how he fought hard for Islam and how he died bravely to protect his Islam.
At the end of this festival there were special thanks to Mrs. Bahiya, Mr. Salim and the audience.

A woman from the audience told me about her opinion. She said that festivals are very important because they make us remember the manners of Mohammad and Islam and they fill our heart with peace.

The Strange Visitors!

At March 27, 2008 H.B.S. Drama Club performed a play to celebrate the International Day of Theater and 50 years' anniversary for space invasion.
This play was shown at R.H.H.S. The stage hall was full. People were talking noisily to each other. Suddenly, the lights went down, every one stopped talking, and the play began. This play started when aliens began to invade earth. Most televisions from China, Russia and USA covered this news live through to people who got scared of them. But the purpose of these aliens’ visit to earth was to make people aware of their wrong and wright actions. Also, after this play a song written by "Ahmad Kaabour" was displayed because of 5000 years for Saida's Life. At the end our friend Kawthar Bitar in the media group distributed many colorful flowers for second grades who participated in this play. There, many reporters in Future Television covered this event. This play "The Strange Visitor" was prepared and organized by Ms.Hoda Jradi ,Ms.Mona Yamen, Zahra Diarbi and the performers of grade -2-.
